The 2nd generation horizontal well was for improving borehole stability, expand area of coverage by a single well, reduce borehole caving risk on a basis of 1st generation horizontal well. The 2nd generation horizontal well adopted dual main branch structure, deployed multiple horizontal well bottomholes, improved geo-steering process and drilling safety system, achieved better coverage of area by a single well and the sharing of One for N and scaled and efficient operational safety construction objective.
Orion was in light of actual development and based on different payzone features, through beefing up borehole stability, optimize borehole pumping structure, and cluster deployment improvement, Orion has brought forward 2,5G well (PE multiple branch horizontal well) and other well shapes, currently the 2nd generation well has developed into mainstream well shape that are having low pumping risk, suitable to different terrains and stable production.
The 2G horizontal well group at Panzhuang Block, Qinshui Basin, Shanxi province: the project has for the first time in China and by way of well groups, effectively improved technical features for cluster well and multiple branches horizontal wells; it has adopted single well and multiple borehole style well deployment, the single well coal seam drilling footage was 3000 m to 5000 m and 95% of the drilling footage was controlled within the coal seam, which answered the design requirement. The 6 wells were continuously pumping in 2000 days, and has achieved an accumulative production of 270 million cubic meters. The xx03 – 1H well has created an industrial record of single well daily production 105,133.4 cubic meters.
In 2008, Orion designed and constructed a multiple branches horizontal well project in Fanzhuang block Shanxi province, and for the first time in China it has achieved the One for Five, total drilling footage was more than 20,000 meters, an area of coverage was over 2 km2, it has achieved stable production of 45,000 cubic meters/day.
In 2010, Orion was designed and constructed a 2.5 G horizontal well for pumping at Sanjiao region Hedong Basin, Shanxi province, the drilling footage was 4500 meters in the coal seam, the main wellbore has run in 1000 meters PE pipe, which has effectively resolved coal powder control issue during workover and operation, it was a smart pumping operation, it has achieved stable production of 12500 cubic meter/day at the bottomhole pressure of 1.9 Mpa.
